A landscape restoration project, working with local farmers and landowners to restore Rhos Pasture across Radnorshire.

The Wilder Communities project focuses on empowering communities to take action for nature. Through work with community groups, charities and local people, we can provide support and advise on the best ways to manage land for the benefit of biodiversity and increase the nature network throughout the county. We can give opportunities for local people to learn and gain training on the techniques to monitor wildlife so that they can gain confidence in conservation techniques and witness the positive affects of the steps that they are making. This project is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and the Ashley Family Foundation.

From mystical ancient woodlands, quiet churchyards, bustling flower-rich roadsides, field-bordering hedgerows to tiny copses, Powys enjoys special, often unnoticed wild places where nature thrives.
Whether they are in the depths of the countryside or nestled in busy towns, these Local Wildlife Sites (LWS) are exceptional areas of land.
They are identified and selected locally by partnerships of local authorities (Powys County Council), nature conservation charities (The Wildlife Trusts), statutory agencies, ecologists and local nature experts including County Recorders.
They use robust, scientifically-determined criteria and detailed ecological surveys. Their selection is based on the most important, distinctive and threatened species and habitats within an international, national, regional and local context. This makes them some of our most valuable areas.
