Public statement on Nant Mithil Energy Park planning application - November 2025

RWT published its previous public statement on Nant Mithil in April 2023 (Public statement for Nant Mithil Energy Park). In the intervening period, the project has received considerable publicity and led to much local debate, while the developers of the proposed energy park, Bute Energy, and their subsidiary, Green Gen Cymru, who are behind the proposed associated pylon line, have run local engagement events.

The detailed planning application for Nant Mithil was finally published by PEDW on 18th November: PEDW [Planning and Environment Decisions Wales] are the Welsh Government's body dealing with planning applications which it is deemed merit decision by central as opposed to local government. The full application, running to several hundred pages, as published by PEDW can be seen at: PEDW - Nant Mithil

RWT members are encouraged to review the application for themselves and make appropriate representations, for or against, or asking for clarification on any points, by the deadline of 23rd December 2025. How to do so is explained in the link above.

As an organisation, RWT will be reviewing the documents in detail and making representations on areas within our scope of operation. It is too soon to indicate how extensive these will be except, on an initial reading of the papers, we expect to raise questions on why sections of the Non-Technical Summary, which is supposed to be fully accessible to all members of the public regardless of expertise, is littered with redacted phrases. Some of these redactions are species names which have been published in previous documents. This level of redaction seems excessive: the usual practice is to publish ecology documents with only minor redactions, for instance of specific breeding locations of protected species.

This statement will be updated as soon as there is more to report.
