Wildlife Charity gives opportunity for skills development to young people in rural Radnorshire

Radnorshire Wildlife Trust, a small Wildlife Trust with big ambitions, has trebled in size in the last year. This momentum is reflected in a range of exciting projects and opportunities underway.

The Trust is currently on the lookout for four trainees to join a new Nature’s Recovery and Climate Change Traineeship, as part of the Stand for Nature Wales project. This trainee program is made possible by the players of the National Lottery, though the Climate Action Fund.

The scheme will enable young people with no previous experience to work alongside Radnorshire Wildlife Trust’s dedicated team of staff and volunteers. The main goal is to give four passionate individuals vital experience in conservation and develop the skills and confidence to successfully apply for the career of their choice. The traineeship will focus on providing hands-on practical work, research, campaigning, and digital communication experience, as well as the vital professional skills required to take that first step into the conservation sector.

Silvia Cojocaru, Stand for Nature Wales Community Officer said “Through this scheme, we hope to encourage young people to explore and develop their skills and knowledge. They will become a crucial part of our Stand for Nature Wales team at Radnorshire Wildlife Trust, supporting us in delivering the project, and taking action to tackle the climate emergency in their local area.”

Chloe Jackson, Stand for Nature Wales Assistant Project Officer said “It would be incredible if we could provide a platform for young people to amplify their voices on climate and wildlife issues, and take meaningful community action. Upskilling the trainees and increasing their ability to embrace a leadership role could enable these young people to inspire and mobilise other young people to stand for nature!”

The traineeship program is running for a duration of six months and will require the successful candidates to commit to fifteen hours every week. This position is voluntary; however, trainees will receive in-house training, travel expense cover, and £200 towards accredited training courses.

The recruitment process has started, and applications will close on the 27th of March. Radnorshire Wildlife Trust encourages any person aged 18-24 that loves to be outdoors to apply, particularly if you are passionate about nature’s recovery and tackling climate change!
