Community Organising Trainee

Conservation is a competitive field, and it can be hard to show that you have the experience needed to land your first job. If you have a real desire to work in this rewarding and satisfying field, but need to boost your skills and experience, a volunteer trainee position with us may be the perfect role for you.
You’ll have to be able to commit time to be our Community Organising Trainee and gain the upper hand when you come to apply for jobs. To get the most out of this opportunity, you’ll need to be available for two days/week over a period of six months. You don’t need to be especially knowledgeable. You should have a keen interest in your local community, and building relationships with people from various backgrounds, feel comfortable in teams and be willing to carry out door-knocking and listening exercises.
You will benefit from a substantial amount of training and get plenty of active experience, learning from our experienced, professional employees and volunteers.
Most of your time will be spent with our fantastic Community Organising team, which is working across Radnorshire. You will get the chance to build relationships with local people, organise events and train and support groups to improve spaces for both people and nature. There will be opportunities to gain experience in working with communities, develop and carry out listening exercises and support and empower community change. The rest of your time will be spent gaining experience in wildlife surveying, working with volunteers, practical work, and tool use.
You’ll also have access to outdoor first aid certification and have the opportunity to develop an essential network of contacts in the sector.
We would like to recruit an enthusiastic person to join our Nextdoor Nature Team to deliver a very exciting community focused project. If you have a keen interest in community organising and would like a career in this area, this is the perfect way to gain experience.

Days we ask you to be available: Tuesday and Wednesday, 9:00am – 5:00pm. Occasional weekend working will also be required during summer months (with time off in lieu given during the week).
