Radnorshire Wildlife Trust Primary School Challenge Quiz
The quiz helps to raise the children’s awareness of wildlife and countryside issues and encourages an attitude of care for our local environment.

The RWT Primary School Wildlife Challenge Quiz

follows the following format:

  • Four children to a team, usually from Yr. 5 and Yr. 6.
  • Five rounds of questions per quiz.
  • Each quiz takes place at the host school and takes approximately 45 mins.
  • In the first heats local schools battle it out
  • The winners of the 1st heats go into the next draw.
  • The draw is based on the distance between schools.
  • The second heat is the semi-final. This is completed by mid June.
  • The Grand Final then takes place at Gilfach Nature Reserve Discovery Centre.
  • Four teams make it to the final.
  • Each child participating will receive a certificate.
  • The winners of the Grand Final will receive the carved salmon trophy with their schools name engraved on it, which they will keep at their school until the next year.
 

Wildlife Challenge Quiz 2009

Kirsty Williams AM, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrat Party, kindly acted as Quiz Master this year.  In a lively and well competed final, Radnor Valley CP School came out on top.  But Kirsty was keen to point out how well the other three schools; Newbridge-on-Wye, Llandrindod Wells' Trefonnen and Whitton, had all done in order to reach the final.

Kirsty paid particular thanks to RWT People & Wildlife Officer, Suzie Fraser who organised the Wildlife Challenge Quiz.  Suzie managed to get nearly all the Radnorshire primary schools to compete this year.  Each school competes in a series of knock-out contests hosted by the primary schools in order to reach the final.  The children have to answer a range of questions on British wildlife
