The River
Sitting by the Marteg today, I was watching two grey wagtails when a kingfisher flashed past. It's good to see the kingy back on the river after moving off to breed elsewhere. A little further on a dipper was bobbing on a stone in the middle of the stream.
The green woodpeckers were very vocal so I sat with my back against a tree and managed to spot three juveniles and two adults, so it looks as if they've had a good breeding season. Not so the barn owls, they didn't return to their nest box and I suspect they didn't survive the hard winter. However a pair of stock doves took over one of Gilfachs barn owl boxes.
